                          SECURITY TIPS

At American Express, we are always working to improve online security and user experience. But as a Cardmember, your active involvement is important too. Here are some simple and important steps you can take to help reduce the online risk.

                          Create Strong and Unique Passwords

Your password must contain 8-16 characters; at least one uppercase alphabet, one lowercase alphabet and one number required.

When creating your password, avoid using easy-to-find information such as your date of birth, or the last four digits of your ID number. Also, be sure to use different passwords across all your banking, email and social media accounts, and consider updating all of your passwords regularly. Any password that contains personal information, common words, or a lack of variation can be an easy target for attacks and pose a significant security risk.

                          Secure your Personal Information

Keep your sensitive personal information such as credit card statements, ID Cards, and other documents in a safe place (accessible to only you), both at home and at work. Shred these documents before discarding.

Before disclosing any personal information, make sure you know why it is required and how it will be used. Do not give out your personal information to people or companies that you do not know. Be careful of over sharing personal information on social networks to avoid creating a trail of information that thieves can use.

                          PIN - Personal Identification Number

                          • Never save your Card(s) and Personal Identification Number (PIN) details together.
                          • Don’t choose a PIN that is your phone number, Civil ID, CPR, Social Security or Date of Birth.
                          • Don’t give out your PIN to anyone. If anyone asks you for your PIN, even if they claim they are from the bank or the police, he/she is most likely a fraudster.

Avoid giving out Personal Information over the Phone

Identity thieves often act as a representative of a recognized organization and contact you to "verify" your account information. In particular, you should look out for this if you are not the one who initiated the phone call.

If you are contacted by someone who claims to be from American Express, you can always verify their legitimacy by instead calling the number on the back of your Card. If it's a legitimate call, you will be routed to the appropriate department for assistance.

Do not reply to any email, SMS or fax requesting for your Card details.

Please do not hesitate to contact AMEX Middle East B.S.C. (c) on +973 17 557755 to report such cases.

                          Bookmark the Favorite Websites

Make it a habit of bookmarking and using your "Favorites" to navigate to the websites you use to manage your financial transactions. This can help you to safeguard against phishing scams.

Monitor and Review your Card Usage Regularly

Make sure to regularly review your Card usage regularly for any inaccurate information, or transactions that you did not authorize.

                          Opt in for E-Statements

Switch to E-Statements, which are accessible securely through your password-protected American Express Online Services account and reduce the risk of lost mail and fraud.
